Tales of Arise Review

Image
Spoiler Warning: This review discusses some character arcs and themes that may reveal key plot points. If you haven’t played Tales of Arise yet, proceed with caution. 1. Story and Plot Narrative: Tales of Arise delivers a gripping and well-written narrative that touches on heavy themes such as slavery, racism, and oppression. The story is incredibly engaging, making it difficult to step away from the game. The tale of Alphen and Shionne as they journey to free the oppressed Dhanans from their Renan overlords is a powerful exploration of these themes. The storyline is not only immersive but also thoughtfully crafted, addressing complex issues with a blend of fantasy and emotional depth. Characters: Character development in Tales of Arise is exceptional. Rinwell’s character arc stands out as she grapples with her ingrained hatred of the Renans, only to realize through her interactions with Shionne and Dohalim that people should be judged as individuals, not as groups. Dohalim...

Octopath Traveler Review

Image
1. Story and Plot Narrative: Octopath Traveler presents a unique narrative structure by focusing on the individual stories of eight distinct characters: Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, and H'aanit. Each character's story is compelling in its own right, offering a deep dive into their personal journeys and challenges. However, the lack of interaction between these characters outside of minor party banter left me feeling that the overall narrative was somewhat disjointed. The stories don't overlap meaningfully, which could have added a richer, more cohesive experience. Additionally, while there is a "heroes' quest" that supposedly ties these narratives together, it is relegated to a side quest, and I chose not to engage with it. This decision reflects my belief that such an overlap should have been integrated into the main storyline. Characters: The character development within each story is strong, particularly with Alfyn, whos...

Final Fantasy XVI Review

Image
1. Story and Plot Narrative: Final Fantasy XVI presents one of the most engaging and well-written stories I’ve come across. The narrative is deeply immersive, with themes such as slavery and free will driving the plot. The story was so captivating that it made it hard to put the game down. Each chapter pulls you deeper into a world rife with conflict, where power struggles and the blight have left nations vying for control. The adventure Clive embarks on is filled with tension and emotion, making it a standout in the series. Characters: The characters are all exceptionally well-crafted, each with their own depth and development. Clive, the protagonist, is a warrior dedicated to freeing the realm from tyranny and the blight. His journey is supported by Jill, whose relationship with Clive is full of chemistry and emotional resonance. Cid adds humor and wit, making the darker moments of the story more bearable. Even the villains are well-developed, with Anabella standing out as a p...

Fire Emblem: Three Houses Review

1. Introduction Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a tactical RPG developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo, and published by Nintendo. Released on July 26, 2019, for the Nintendo Switch, it quickly became one of the most acclaimed entries in the Fire Emblem series, known for its intricate storytelling, character development, and strategic gameplay. 2. Story and Characters Narrative: The main storyline of Fire Emblem: Three Houses is engaging and immersive, albeit with some pacing issues. The narrative branches based on the house the player chooses to lead—Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer—each offering unique perspectives and endings. The choices made regarding recruitment, relationships, and even marriages further influence the plot, adding depth and replayability. The story covers themes of war, politics, and personal growth, which unfold differently depending on the player's decisions. Characters: The characters are a standout feature, each memorable and well-...
